'Revenge' an advert for a drink called 'Redemption'
(Screened at the Arts Picturehouse, Cambridge)
|
About 'Redemption'"Revenge is an advert for a non-existent beverage called ‘Redemption’, in which we see a troubled man looking for something to drown his sorrows with.
The drink he requests initially is ‘Revenge’, an alcoholic beverage, in the belief that it will make him feel better. However it is so cold it chills him to the core and albeit it’s sweet taste is not satisfying. Once presented with the non-alcoholic Citrus fruits drink, ‘Redemption’, his spirits are lifted. " The concept of ‘revenge’ began with the phrases; 'revenge is sweet' and 'a dish best served cold'. This got me thinking, and I couldn't stop envisioning it as a drink; a drink that satisfies on first taste but does not sustain. This led me on to the idea of another drink that counteracts Revenge, and so 'Redemption' was born. The general idea comes from life experience, the idea that something bad for you will make you feel better, when in reality all you need is a cool head. It is styled like the alcohol advertisements we see on television, but the twist is that the drink is healthy. I felt that styling it this way would, in effect, make the product more interesting and would attract people to it, due to the charm it shares with alcohol advertisements. 'Escape' an advert for a chocolate called 'Freedom'
(Shown at the Cambridge school of Art Degree show)
|
About 'Escape'Escape is an advert for a chocolate called ‘Freedom’, in which we see the conventional stereotype negated with the main character being a male.
It is more common to watch a chocolate advertisement and see a woman curling up to watch her favourite film in a lavish apartment, or something similar, showing the luxury and sultry nature associated with these kinds of products. If a man is ever involved it has to be seen as a macho, manly statement like Snickers, ‘get some nuts!’ I think seeing a man enjoying chocolate in a more natural setting makes a nice change, and fits a gap in the market. I am aware of the Aero bubbles advert featuring a topless man, however, this is still a direct shot at women; it doesn't have that all round effect. Everyone wants 'freedom'. |
